Weekly Market Movers | 6.17.26

Week of June 9 - June 16th

SpaceX went public — and made history.

Elon Musk’s rocket company hit the stock market Thursday and instantly became one of the most valuable companies ever listed. Think of it like a legendary sports franchise finally selling shares to the public for the first time — and everyone wanted in. When something this large and culturally significant goes public and investors rush in, it sends a signal that confidence in the future is alive and well. Markets rose broadly on the news, and if you have a 401(k) or any kind of retirement account, you likely felt it.¹

Prices are rising again.

Last week’s inflation report showed everyday costs jumped more than expected, driven by energy — meaning gas, utilities, and groceries. We’d spent much of the last year watching inflation cool. This report put that progress on pause, and the relief many people were starting to feel may be premature.²

Borrowing is about to get harder.

With inflation back on the rise, the hope that interest rates would fall this year is fading. The Federal Reserve won’t cut rates while prices are climbing — which means mortgages, car loans, and credit cards stay expensive. If you’ve been waiting for rates to drop before making a big financial move, that window is closing.³

New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh makes his first public statement today. What he signals will shape your borrowing costs for the rest of the year.
